Hawaii Auto Insurance

Hawaii is a “No Fault” state. That means that every driver is required to purchase Personal Injury Protection, PIP, in which the driver’s (“first party”) insurance company covers non-catastrophic injury-related expenses and associated costs as a result of an accident regardless who is “at fault.” This insures that every motorist will receive immediate medical attention. Also, this limits a driver from suing or being sued for damages as a result of an accident in most cases. However, based on the severity of the accident/injury or monetary amount, if you are at fault you may be subject to a lawsuit for damages.

Coverage Minimum 20/40/10 - $20,000 for injury liability for one person in an accident, $40,000 for all injuries n any one accident, and $10,000 for property damage in an accident.

Mandatory Hawaii Auto Insurance Coverage

PIP (No Fault) policy, Property Damage Liability policy, and Bodily Injury Liability policy

Proof of Hawaii AUto Insurance is required. Your Hawaii auto insurance information card must be carried in your vehicle at all times.

Penalty for Failure to Comply - Depending upon the driver’s record and number of offenses, the penalty for failure to comply is: a $500-$1,000 fine or 75 – 100 hours of community service work, suspension of your driver's license for three months, or the vehicle's driver or registered owner must keep a non-refundable insurance policy in force for six months.

You can be pulled over for non-seat belt use, $45 penalty for all seats not in compliance.
